Thriving in My 40s: The Energy and Skin Benefits of a Plant-Based Lifestyle
Choosing to live a (90%) plant-based lifestyle has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for myself. As a work-from-home mom with a 4-year-old, my days are full of, well let’s be honest, a bit of chaos. But shifting to a plant-based diet has given me the boost I needed to keep up with it all. I didn’t go fully plant-based overnight, but gradually transitioning to a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains has brought so many positive changes into my life.
One of the most significant benefits I’ve noticed is the increase in my energy levels. As women in our 40s, our bodies go through a lot of changes—hormones start to shift, and it can feel like a never-ending roller coaster. But I’ve found that eating predominantly plant-based helps to balance those hormones naturally. This diet is packed with nutrients that support our bodies during this new stage of life. With a little one to take care of, having that sustained energy throughout the day makes a huge difference. I’m not just keeping up; I’m thriving!
Another perk of this lifestyle is the effect it’s had on my skin. I’ve always been mindful of aging gracefully, and a plant-based diet has been my secret weapon. My skin has become clearer, and I’ve noticed a natural glow that wasn’t there before. Plus, I’ve seen fewer signs of aging, which is always a bonus. Foods like avocados, sweet potatoes, and chia seeds are not only delicious but also packed with vitamins and antioxidants that nourish the skin from the inside out. They help keep it hydrated and youthful, which is exactly what we need as we get older.
Speaking of youthfulness, one unexpected benefit of this diet is its effect on my hair. I was surprised to learn that certain plant foods can actually help reverse grey hair! Foods like black sesame seeds, spirulina, and walnuts are known for their ability to nourish hair and even bring back some of its natural color. It’s amazing how much our diet can influence not just how we feel but also how we look. I’m grateful every day for the vitality and health that a plant-based lifestyle has brought into my life, and I’m excited to continue this journey, knowing I’m setting a positive example for my little one too.
